If someone else does not end up helping you, you could perhaps figure out exactly what is going on by grabbing the TCP streams. I think you mentioned that E-rage V.X worked, so if you can still fire that app up, make a connection, save the TCP data, then do the same of E-rage 2004. You could then compare and see if where the problem is being introduced.
