That all makes sense. I had been wondering if there is something else going
on with the Mac -- bad RAM, corrupted OS, bugdoublers (system haxies, etc.).
Haxies would not have loaded on your Mac when you tried the Safe Start, but
they might have already corrupted the OS and/or Office.

Do the other Office applications work (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)?

If you rely on MS Office, and you're having this much trouble, this points
to the need for precautionary maintenance of your Mac now. Backup your
drive. Burn your documents and files to a CD/DVD. Buy an external drive,
and make a backup and/or clone.

I use a paid version of Super Duper!, which also operates in free mode.

If removing and reinstalling MS Office does not succeed, you'll eventually
end up with the suggestion to do an Erase and Install of your hard disk.
You might as well gather your installer disks now (Mac OS and applications).
If you've been downloading the installers for other applications (and don't
have the disks), back them up now, along with the downloaded serial numbers.

I don't recall what OS you are running. Diane's suggestion to apply the OS
combo updaters seems to be a good one. If your Mac is already at the latest
10.4 OS (10.4.11), you could just reapply the 10.4.11 combo updater.

If you're running Leopard, I dunno what to tell you.

Good luck!
