I want to thank everyone who responded on this thread. It's been very
educational. It's opened my eyes to a number of factors to consider in
selecting the tripod. I also appreciate it that most writers, when
mentioning a particular factor, mentioned why they felt it to be
particularly important to them. There were a few factors whose basis
aren't very important to me, based on how (or how much) I intend to use
it; being able to see the reasoning behind the various factors make it
possible to apply the advice to my own planned use.
