That does not fit with the samples shown on DPReview's site:

They said, "The D30's noise looks more "film like" in that it's random, not
a defined pattern like the D1, so that probably makes it easier to remove,
but overall I'd probably call this part of the comparison a dead heat."
I shot basketball at 800 and 1600 ISO this wekend and there is a BIG
difference in shooting RAW vs. JPEG mode with noise (RAW is much preferred).
