Julian,
I first ran into "predictive focus" with my -5 in "sports mode".
I have not used it to shoot erratic movement of children only things
somewhat less erratic, CART race cars. They sometimes leave the track
and that is as close as they come to the way kids change course. ;-)
It doesn't miss.
There is also the AI Servo focus which follows a moving subject and
fires the shutter when you release the button. It is the predictive
focus in the modes other than "sports mode". It too works.
