Well, after re-reading my 1000F documentation, it appears that the term
predictive is never used (well, a translation of it into French ;-). 3 AF
modes are mentioned: One Shot, AI Servo, and (translated from French)
Intelligent Autofocus Selection (I guess it's the mode where it is One Shot
first and then becomes AI Focus if a motion is detected. Or maybe it's the
same as AI Focus. It's very badly explained in the French Doc, if at all.
Any English one around?). In all cases, it is a focus priority mode. In
AI Servo, it says that the AF "follows the motion of the subject"
(translated from French), which is not predictive at all, as Julian said.
So I guess there's no big difference AF wise between the 1000F and 1000FN.
On my 50E, there are 3 modes: One-Shot, AI Focus, and AI Servo. In AI
Servo, "the camera continues to focus the subject". It uses Predictive AF
"if the subject approaches or retreats from the camera at a constant speed"
(quotes are from the English documentation). It's a shutter priority
mode. AI Focus is One-Shot at the beginning and switches to AI Servo if a
motion of the subject is detected. One-Shot and AI Focus are
focus priority modes.
That's it for this 2 bodies.
