The Nikon Coolscan III is my second film scanner and I think it is
excellent. Very easy to set up and easy to get consistent results with
both slides and negatives. I have used Digital Ice and it does a good
job but I have switch to non-Nikon software. I now us Viewscan by
Hamrick. I think I get better, cleaner, sharper and higher resolution
scans with it. I have no affiliation with Hamrick. Their web address
is http://www.hamrick.com .
