I went through the same process some time ago and chose the Canon. Reason is
that it has higher dynamic range than the Coolscan (3.2 vs 3) and 36 bits vs
24, and it was cheaper too. The LS 2000 is the only Nikon to buy IMO, but at
that price, I would probably get the Polaroid with 4000dpi. One of the newer
Minoltas gets very good reviews. (I think it has a drange of 3.6 and 2800dpi
at 36 bits and is about in the same price range) I belonged to a film
scanner mailing list for a while before I decided and the general opinion
was that the digital ice was handy for quick scans, but tended to soften the
images somewhat for the more critical amongst us.
