I usually find out the 2CR5 battery in my EOS-3 is dead when I trip the
shutter release and the mirror goes up but never comes down! The battery
status indicator has never been useful in giving me a reliable indication
even though I check them regularly, I recall several times when the status
bar shows all three, and very shortly after the camera would just die
without warning (at least not that I have noticed).
This last time I did notice before the "unintended mirror-lockup" that the
AF was chattering a bit on the EF100-400 (IS was on) and seems to be unable
to lock on focus even though it is bright daylight condition, I checked the
battery status and sure enough it showed only one bar, I had checked the
battery status no more than 5 or 6 frames before that and it still showed
full 3 bars.

Ken
