As a follow up I just did a test of the autofocus sensors on my EOS 10 at
F5.6. In dim room light, all three sensors seem sensitive to both horizontal
and vertical lines, giving immediate focus and confirmation. The room light
was not dim enough to turn on the auto focus assist either in this case.
While I haven't any experience using other EOS cameras, with a USM lens,
this camera autofocuses very well. I have to conclude all three sensors are
cross type and work at F 5.6.
