Hi Jim,

I was able to find some more information about the EOS 10 at Klaus Schroiff's
Photozone (Hi Klaus :-)
  http://www.photozone.de/canoncamera.htm#mid
and at the EOS FAQ v2.4 at it's mirror
  http://www.geo.tu-freiberg.de/docs/eos-faq/7bodies.html#q15

Apparently, there is a central cross-type sensor, and two flanking
sensors that sensitive to horizontal lines.

Regarding differences between EOS 10 and EOS 30, those articles also point
out that on the EOS 10:
Built-in flash covers 35mm FOV
No Flash Exposure Compensation
No Centre-weighted metering (Is this true?)
No Red-eye Reduction function

Cheers
Julian Loke
