For portraits buy the Canon 135mm F2.98 Soft Focus lens. This way you get
am exceptionally sharp 135 with built-in soft focus settings so its far more
conevnient than adding filters when you need to get that soft look.
You can use a 100mm macro, but it may be too sharp at times and possibly the
focal length too short.
Just my 2 cents.

PS I often use my 28-135mm IS lens ar 135mm with a softar filter for
portraits. This works very well for me.
