Here is another twist. Use that 70-200 for your portrait work and then get a 20-35 (if you don't already have one.) This wide lens is very handy with kids at birthday parties, etc, especially when they are indoors. I've got a 4 and a 7 year old, and that's a great lens for capturing them doing a lot of the stuff they do. If you insist on a prime lens, I highly recommend the 100 f2.0. I got a used one and it's an excellent lens for head shots and minimal dof.
