    Just wanted to say, that unless you really really need to go to 17mm,
the Canon EF 20-35 USM is a fine lens. It's not what I'd call cheap, but
it's reasonable compared to the 17-35 and scores perhaps even better in
sharpness. I've got it, and love it. I've heard the Sigma is also a good
lens, but, it's not a Canon lens, and I definitely like to stick to Canon
myself.
