Hi Jakob,

Before taking the drastic step of replacing the Rebel (and maybe
finding out that your lens was faulty!), try:

1) Replace your batteries with a fresh set in the 500N. Make sure
that you clean the battery contacts with a pencil eraser and
isopropyl alcohol (e.g. CD cleaning fluid)

2) Check to see that the camera shutter releases and winds, and
that it does not lock up EVEN WHEN THERE IS NO LENS MOUNTED.

3) GENTLY clean the lens mount electronic contacts on the lens
and in the camera with a soft pencil eraser and isopropyl alcohol
(e.g. CD cleaning fluid).

4) Check that your EF 28-135 does not cause another recent
EOS body (e.g. another Rebel G) to lock up.

4) Did you know that the 620 is not fully compatible with
the 28-135?  See eosdoc:
