Well, with TILT set to zero, the "FOCUS" action moves the lens
towards and away from the film and moves the plane of sharp focus
towards and away from the lens. This is the normal behaviour
required for autofocus to work.
However, if the lens is tilted, the plane of sharp focus is no
longer parallel to the film plane. In fact, adjusting the lens
towards and away from the film will rotate the plane of sharp
focus (hinge rule). You could also focus by adjusting TILT.
AFAIK, you can still use the focus-confirmation feature by placing
your subject over an autofocus sensor. But you cannot use "focus-lock"
and recompose, since the plane of focus will change when you move the
camera.
