Nice lesson thank you, but as I said, I want to use wide angle
and I want to focus a bit closer than the minimum focusing distance
of the lens alone. THAT is the perspective and angle of view I want
to use. If I could crop I would use a longer lens instead.
My idea is to take close-ups where the background (which is far away)
can be seen.

I don't believe it works with wide angles very well.
