I dissected once a 12mm Kenko extension tube, and it's just a couple of
spring-loaded gold contacts and two mounts...
I'm not sure you could shorten it... but everything is possible ;-)
Depending on the position of the little "tunnels" that guide the contacts,
you could slice a piece of it. You'll have to make again the holes for the
screws though.
Cutting it straight can be also a problem. Maybe a glass cutter (the
specialist store I mean) could help you with that.
Other take coud be to split it in two, sand both internal ends and glue it
back again... much less trouble with placing back the metal mount.
Sounds like a nice weekend task for the day I get my pension (in about 42
years... ;-)
