Pattie:

Have you spent much time with the EOS 3 and a PB-E2 on it? Or, the 1v with
the PB-E2? The PB-E2 weighs in at 17.1 ounces (484 grams) empty. Add eight
AA batteries and that is one heavy unit. With the EOS 3 setting on top,
it's about 44.6 ounces (1264 grams), nearly 3 pounds, and with the 1v, you
have nearly 50.4 ounces (1429 grams)...which has the distinction of being
the heaviest 35mm camera w/booster combination save the Minolta 9 with it's
behemoth booster. You need to subtract the weight of the original EOS body
battery cover/grip whatever that is, in both cases however.

I'd make sure the weight of whatever body you select will be comfortable for
you to hold, carry and use for long periods, and figure in the kind of lens
you'll be using (probably a pretty big hunk of glass for sports photography)
along with the booster. Be sure to get some "hands-on" experience before
you make your decision :-)

Oh, and your husband raises the term "supportive spouse" to a whole new
level! Good for you!
