Yes, piggin' heavy (1n + PB-E1 that is). I tried Lithium AAs to cut 
the weight down, but they were just too expensive, and didn't have 
enough of a prolonged life, to justify using them. Back to Alkalines 
and next NiMHs.

Now try handholding it with the 300/2.8...

Vertical control grip - no increase in frame rate, which is 4.5fps 
with follow focussing. Only takes 4 AAs too, so its actually lighter 
than the PBs. That's what I was using before the 1n. Lots of metal 
but you pay for it in weight and condensation if you shoot out in the 
cold. Given it doesn't boost the camera, I don't know why the didn't 
design the camera with the vertical grip built in.

Very sound advice, that man. Personally, there's no way I'd use 
1n/1v/3/D30 without the booster/grip - I'd miss the vertical shutter 
release too much.
