I gotta think a zoom isn't all that useful as a bird lens--how often are you going to
be close enough to get the shot you want at 100mm?? If it were me, at that price
point I'd be looking hard at a 400/5.6L plus extender. As it is, for birds I have at
least the 1.4x extender, and often the 2x extender, on my 300mm lens about 90% of the
time, and too often it still isn't long enough.
Speaking of extenders, does anyone know first-hand which extension tube is necessary
to couple the two EF extenders together? Is the 12mm tube thick enough?
