Hi Steve,

The D30 is too low a resolution device for this type of work, even 35mm film
scanned on a drum scanner will most likely be lacking due to the limited
resolution of the film and the scale of the art work. The use of any type
of program to resize the original digital image file only results in large
fuzzy images, you cannot create good data from nothing, resolution is king
here.

If the idea behind the limited edition prints is to have a high quality
reproduction of the original art you should probably rent at least a medium
format (6x6 and larger), camera or ideally a cut film camera say a 4x5 or
so. You'll also need lots of light, well diffused and adjustable, solid
support for the art and whatever camera you use. Amazingly, small diameter
Kevlar string is very useful for getting the original art and film plane
aligned well.

I'm assuming that this is an offset print job? You may be better served to
look into IRIS prints if the print run is very limited. With the right
source for the image file (big film, drum scanned), IRIS prints can be
absolutely stunning.

Regards,

Chip Louie
