As long as you can use fast enough shutter speeds, why should it be? Have you ever seen the work of Charles Brown? I think he's the Ansel Adams of A2A - he did all his work with a medium format camera back in the 40's, 50's and 60's. Certainly no IS back then, and razor sharp gorgeous photos! Technique, man, technique. There are also some gyroscope stabilizers you can attach to the entire camera, although I don't know hoe sensitive they arte to fine vibration.
