Hi Rich,
I do a lot of motoring assignments which often has me hanging out of one
vehicle to take shots of the subject vehicle behind, beside, or in front of
me. This would be a similar application to yours in that there is often
rough road surfaces giving considerable movement and vibration. I use the
28-70 and 70-200 for all these shots and just modify the shutter speed to
suit the road conditions, often shooting a little faster than I would like
to get around the camera movement.
I suggest you could do similar and not worry about the IS lenses initially.
