Early versions of the 170 and 340 MB drives used to get
warm indeed. My 1 GB MicroDrive does not warm up to
any noticable extent. Pulling it from the camera after
prolonged review in the camera, it seems less than hand
warm.

They are not.

Unimpressed. I put much more concern in carrying spare
batteries when using the 1.2/85mm L for its 1 watt M1 motor.
*This* drains batteries.

That is certainly not the problem. My DSCM-11000 drive
does not emit any noticable heat that might be considered
to be any problem.

The equivalent of 350 USD in Germany.

Any card not the regular SanDisk brand (not SanDisk Ultra)
will pose a risk to your data. SanDisk uses extensive media
management such as read after write verification, cycle
counters, transparent remapping of defectice cells and more
techniques of securing data integrity. SanDisk also offers
data recovery from SanDisk cards.

Cheaper brands or "fast cards" use less or no media management
at all, which results in more write/read speed due to skipped
overhead but also in reduced saftey. You get what you pay for.

With the above said I'd rather shy away from any card that is
not a SanDisk regular card. Even the new SanDisk Ultra just
introduced skip every second cell in verification to achieve
higher write speeds.

Uih, voll drauf ausgerutscht! Wie peinlich... :-)
