You're right Greg I used 2 x 550EX in small softboxes for portrait and
macro, I had to place them quite close to the object (30-50cm). Of course
you can buy few more 550's but two basic studio flashes will be cheaper.
And studio flashes will have pilot lamps - very important for studio work
!!!
With 550EX you have only energy consuming strobo mode.
