EOS-3 with 420EX flash

I have a question.  All the Canon literature pairs up
the EOS-3 with the 550EX and the Elan7 with the 420EX.

How well will a 420EX perform on an EOS-3?  Is there something about the number
of focus points what will confuse either the body or flash?
