My opinion is that talking about film and lens resolutions in terms of pairs of lines/mm is wrong, we have to remember that film and lens are analog devices.
I think that 1D is great camera, but you can't compare it with film cameras, not yet, at least. Film and digital cameras are for different purposes. If this, great digital camera suits your needs, then buy it! Gunars.
