Thanks for your answer! But isn't this a theoretical approach?
What I'm interested in, is a real-life comparison: The same scenery,
photographed using the same lens on both a conventional EOS and a 1d,
followed by a scan of the film on a film scanner like a Nikon Coolscan IV.
(A scan with a high-tech drumscanner would be nice too, but not too
interesting for me)

Of course seeing some real prints to judge the difference would be even
better, but those are so difficult to send via e-mail. :-)

You say that the 1d delivers the same quality as a consumer class zoom lens.
Would my EOS 5 and EF 28-105, using Fuji Superia 200, followed by a scan
using a Nikon LS-30 be in the same league as a 1d?
