When I first saw this result, I suggested that perhaps photodo had tested the
lens with the IS left in the ON position.  They do tests at various apertures so
having the lens mounted on a body will make change of aperture easier, and
perhaps they forgot to read the instructions about not using early* IS on a
tripod.  IS continues to work with the camera's film chamber door open which I
guess would be necessary for their sensors to be placed in the film plane.
* I'm assuming that the EF 300 f4L IS has the earlier rather than the later
version of IS.

FWIW, I've got the non IS version and it's certainly sharp if I manage to hold
it really still.
