It strikes me that this is one of those 'how many pixels can dance on the head of a pin' type of problems. Two articles I've encountered recently have added a lot to how I think about these issues. The first article is a discussion by Galen Rowell about the qualitative difference he has experienced with scanned 35mm film output on digital printers compared to conventional enlargements. http://www.vividlight.com/articles/103.htm The second link is to one of the most informative discussions I've encountered on digital print/film resolution. http://clarkvision.com/imagedetail/scandetail.html I'm currently shooting with an eos3 and using a film scanner and photoshop as a digital darkroom. For prints I use an Epson inkjet printer. I have no plans to return to a conventional darkroom. I'm yearning for a D60. Photography moving into the digital realm is compelling and rewarding for me.
