Yes, the EOS-3 is very loud. So is the 1v. I believe they use the same shutter drive mechanism. This is the only feature of the -3 that I'm disappointed in. It doesn't bother me in 99% of the situations, but for the remaining 1% there are some solutions:
*$5000 leica * $50 Yashica Electro w/ 45mm 1.8 lens * Camera muffler/jacket (see EOS Magazine rear pages) I personally went for #2, the leaf shutter Yashica for the remaining 1% of situations (churches, concerts, etc.). Takes great pictures and is virtually silent.
