It depends a lot on what kind of pictures you shoot. Personally, I mainly
shoot static pictures where I have lots of time to chose my position. So my
setup is a 20-35/3.5-4.5, 50/1.4, and 70-200/2.8L, besides some other
lenses. Therefore, from my point of view, my suggestion is to go for the
50/1.8 which is not the fastest but supposedly still a great lens for little
money. Then when the 28-70/2.8 becomes available you can jump for that one.
If you do photography where you don't have time to chose your position then
you are better off with a zoom that overlaps a bit with the zooms that you
already own.
