Hi James,

Delivery of the new 24-70L might be faster than that. I understand that
Canon Indonesia had receive initial 5 samples of this lens last week,
and all been sold already with the actual price US$ 1300. They expecting
another shipment on early December. 
For your stop gap, you might want to consider Canon 50 f/1.4. You would
be able to sell it later with a little loss, or might decided to keep
it. 
Other lens (IMO) worth to consider is Sigma 28-70 f/2.8 EX DF (the new
version). For under US$ 300 street price, it would be very hard to beat.
