Go for the cheap 50 f1.8 - I'll be surprised if you see any reduction in
sharpness (other than at f1.8) compared with your L glass.  If you get the Mk
II, don't be put off by its less than precision assembly!  The Mk I is rarer,
better made and has a DOF scale, I believe.
