FWIW, one more man's opinion. I put the Ec-D matte grid screen into my
EOS 3 (since sold) and EOS 1v. Slightly darker, but higher contrast and
easier to focus as Mike says, not to mention the free help in
rule-of-thirds composition and making skewed horizons go away forever.
This probably sounds overblown, but in the general case I would consider
the Ec-D screen to be an automatic upgrade for high-end EOS bodies. Well
worth the few bucks. Like the Nike ads say, just do it (and don't forget
to change CF 0).

Thanks Mike. Did you find the grid screen to be dimmer or similar in
brightness to EOS-3 standard one ?

I don't pay much attention to the brightness of screens these days (I
have a matte/grid screen in my eos 3, and it works great, but I never
use it since getting a couple D60 bodies). However, one caution...if
you need to do any manual focusing, whether because of personal
preference or just a situation where AF doesn't work, keep in mind that
the brighter the screen, generally the less "pop" there is when
something comes into focus. The older technology screens tend to be
better for manual focusing. I really liked the grid screen in the eos 3
for this fact when I replaced the standard screen with it.
