I had used the Tokina 28-70/2.6-2.8 ATX PRO II (77mm) for Minolta for years
being also convinced in its performance by online tests and opinions.
Well, first of all, the featured by very strong and easily noticeable bluish
cast (cool rendition)
which I find very annoying eating up the contrast, also is very prone to
flare.
A few months ago visiting Taiwan and Honk Kong I once removed the Uv filter
on it due to certain circumstances and after the events, forgot to put it
back afterwards, so shoot whole week without it. What a mistake ! Spent days
and nights fighting in Photoshop with lack of contrast and overall
bluishness of my scans, until realized what is the reason.
I wouldn't swear by its sharpness either, my old (should I say ancient ?)
Minolta 28-85 seemed to be sharper.

Again, all it was about the previous version, I hope the new one has
corrected the issues.

Alex Z

The Tokina 28-70 f2.8, and the older 2.6-2.8, are said to be stellar
performers, based on an Angineaux design.
