Maybe so, but I could see the difference between the two as soon as I upgraded - over 12 months ago. I was never keen to use the series 1 extender as I thought the images were just a bit too soft for a lot of my work, but now I often use the 2xII with my 300/2.8IS with good results. It seems to be even better now that I'm using the 1Ds - probably something to do with the work process with digital files.
