The main reason for the ST-E2 is to replace the limiting OSCS2. I find myself using the OSCS2 **ALL** the time I'm using flash and I expect the ST-E2 to live mounted on the hotshoe. Obviously a 550EX will be an overkill (size, weight) for this requirement.
A second 550EX is for sure in my "roadmap" but basically I first wanted to get more flexible with the location of my flash unit.
