Hi Gerard,

There may be some disadvantages in using an ST-E2 in place of the OCSC2,
other than the increased battery requirements.

When you run your 550EX as a wireless E-TTL slave, the unit emits a 1Hz red
aiming blinking with the AF-assist beam. The only way I have found to turn
this off is to use some masking tape :-(

Have a look at the E-TTL recipes document:

The ST-E2 and Sigma EF 500 Super are about the same price. With the former,
you get a replacement for OCSC2. With the latter, for the same price, you
have the beginnings of a two-light Wireless E-TTL system.

And you can continue to use the OCSC2 on a flash bracket, you can get very
nice twin lighting, with automatic ratios, or even manual power control:

My regards to your family.
Cheers
Julian Loke
