So, in summary, it seems that if you can walk in the product to the actual Canon repair facility, then the service is great, otherwise, you must constantly nag them and sometimes send the item back for subsequent repair.
Not my experience. I had a switch fail (under warranty) on my G2, and I sent it to a Canon facility in LA (I'm near SF) and it was back on my doorstop, repaired and some parts I didn't ask for replaced at no charge, in under a week. I was wowed, to say the least.
