Well, that's unfortunate.

However, I have excellent experience with Canon Canada located in
Mississauga, a suburb on the west end of Toronto.

They updated the EOS-3 firmware for me in one day, the body was cleaned and
the mirror was dusted, the ever so slightly miss-aligned mirror was aligned
perfectly.

I brought in an EF100-400 a few years ago that was just out of warranty and
had a stiff MF ring that developed suddenly, I also left the EOS-3 body with
them to calibrate for focus, Canon Canada loaned me another EOS-3 and
EF100-400 for the week that the lens was being repaired and the body
checked, no charge.

A year later I dropped the EF28-135, broke something internal and one of the
lens element fell out of its' mounting location, I got it back in less than
a week, and the lens came back feeling like new without the little bit of
slop I've noticed in the zoom barrel, and the repair cost was very
reasonable. I didn't ask for any loaner this time as I didn't need it.

Last year I brought an out of warranty Canon inkjet printer in since even a
brand "new" ink cartridge I just opened from the sealed package did not
print, I thought the problem must be electronic in nature. The fellow at
the service counter took the ink cartridge out, looked at the manufacturing
code at the bottom and determined the cartridge (which I had bought on sale
from a business supply store a year prior) was way too old and the ink has
solidified. He then ask me how often I do colour printing, to which I said
none, he went back to the shop, came back in 5 minutes and said the printer
is working fine after he put a large size black ink cartridge in it, again
no charge, the printer is working just fine for well over a year now.

The service I've been receiving is one of the reason I am sold with Canon
products !

(and I have heard a colleague with horrible Nikon repair experience, but no
need to bash any brand name here)

Oh, if someone has good Canon equip. for sale at a good price due to an
impending brand change, please let me know!

Ken
