Not sure if the 2741 is any different than the 0741, but you can at 
least expand/loosen the 0741 in one movement, by grabbing all 4 
collars/screws in one hand, and unscrewing one after the other.

Not sure how much more solid anyone would want a monopod....perhaps 
to sit on it?
