I doubt Canon will reduce the crop
factor very soon. And if they do
so, it won't be drastic.

Canon's consumer DSLRs are very
agressively priced, and part of
what makes that possible is a
smaller sensor size than their
pro line of DSLRs.

Canon may use the same technology
for designing and producing larger
and smaller chips, but larger
chips result in a lower production
yield, resulting in higher cost.

Mass-producing smaller chips also
helps pay for R&D for new chips.

As I understand, the 1Ds is
basically two 6MP sensors put
side-to-side. The resulting pixel
density is the same, but at full-
frame.

If Canon were to make consumer DSLRs
full-frame (which would great, btw),
it would kill sales on their pro
line to a certain degree.
