Well, as the owner of an A2 and D30, plus two of the lenses you mention, the
28-135 and 50mm f1.8, I can give a pretty good answer.  Low light AF is,
indeed, rather short of what the A2 gives, but, unless you are shooting in
very dim lighting, you'll not run into it that often.  I've shot live shows
in clubs with both, and they're pretty close, good contrast in the lighting
onstage seems to help.  The shutter lag and AF speed should be quick enough
that you'll not miss any shots of even the most hyperactive of children.
