Hi! I've always wondered how do you guys shoot with flash? I'm talking about those inside shots with too little light (and where you do not want to go beyond ISO 400 for grain/noise). Let's forget multi-, fill- and studio-flash systems for a while. A couple of ways come to mind:
1) P-mode and automatic focusing point (the most automatic mode), E-TTL 2) P-mode with manually selected FP over the subject, E-TTL 3) P-mode with FEL, E-TTL 4) M-mode with manually selected FP over the subject, E-TTL 5) M-mode with FEL, E-TTL A) direct B) bounce I have probably never shot with 1) but in 5% of the time I use 2 and B if possible. But most of the time I use M-mode (4) with about the largest aperture and time somewhere between 1/10 - 1/50 - and bounce always if possible. P mode always chooses 1/60 and I generally have the problem that the photos look like those animals (deer, goose) in the head lights... So that's what I'm trying to battle with the M mode. I have used the same way with both film camera (EOS 3) and the digital camera (EOS-1Ds) that I have been able to borrow from time to time. I have gotten the same kind of results always. Which means that the exposures wary :-) But generally the mood as been good and flash exposure has always been quite good. Actually I do not know what the poor flash performance of EOS cameras is. All the problems in my photos have been caused by me. And thus I do not know how the latest developments in E-TTL would give me. But then again, I do not shoot direct flash with auto everything.
