Well, after posting that description I went to an event where it didn't
work.  I shot the whole thing on Av 1/200, -1 stops, ISO 200.  A lot of
shots still came out mostly overexposed.


But how was the background? Av is designed to expose for the background at any shutter speed from 30sec up to sync speed. Given that, how did you specify 1/200? Something is off kilter here. One doesn't normally "shoot an event" in Av unless you are purposely dragging the shutter for effect. I don't understand this post. How would you specify 1/200 with Av (don't think you can)?
