Ken, just my opinion, worth no more than any, less than most. I loved my 1n dearly, it was my first pro model Canon and it was (an is) a fantastic camera. But if you already have an Elan 7 and you're contemplating a digital body, I'd suggest you look at an EOS 3 instead. Virtually every feature of the 1n, although slightly less tank-like, plus newer AF and more importantly, ETTL like your Elan and whatever digital body you end up with. While you may not use a lot of flash with your long lenses (or maybe you own a couple of better beamers already), wouldn't it be simpler to have a single flash system to deal with?
And just a warning, once you own either the 1 or 3 series, the Canon 20D will seem like a step back in many respects. I use both my 20Ds a great deal, but I'd like to be able to afford something with spot metering and a real viewfinder. So you may end up saving for the 5D or a used 1dMkII after your upcoming film body purchase.
