Thanks Bob - I do like having a spot meter, and it looks like the 3's multi-spot is closer to the T-90's 8-spot averaging which I'm used to and really like, although I rarely average more than 3 or 4. I do about half my spot-metering with a hand-held, though, so it wouldn't be a deal-breaker - one reason I can consider the 20D. I also want the interchangeable focusing screens, even though that's not a huge factor. And yes, I like the feel of a pro-build camera (the T-90 is wonderful) although the Elan 7 feels pretty good, especially with the BP-300 on it. Re: the 20D I would definitely have to get the battery/vertical for it, it does feel small in my large hands. I think I'm going to continue to save and watch for a while, and perhaps buy an EOS-3 if I find one at the right price. (I should probably just go ahead and get the 400/5.6L first, and see how it does on my Elan 7 - since I know it'll be fine on the other bodies I'm considering.)

Thanks for the thoughts, all.

What is it you hope to get out of an upgrade? Do you
feel you need a spot meter? Or a more rugged,
water-resistant body? Or something else.

Tom made some good points, and if you really need
something that the 1N (or 3) offer, then he's probably
right that the 3 is a better fit. (Except for one
thing: No Canon camera I've ever owned has ever felt
as precisely made as the 1N / 1v. Not even the F-1N.
Although I haven't spent much time with a 90.)

But unless you really feel some feature of a new body
is going to make your images better, or easier to get,
I'd suggest saving the money and putting it towards a
digital, if that's your eventual goal anyway.

I still have my 1v, and can't quite convince myself to
part with it (unless someone wants to make me a real
good offer), but I shoot with my 20D almost
exclusively, with a 10D as my primary backup.

If the rumors of a 20D replacement are true, you may
be able to find 20Ds fairly cheap in the near future.
