What is it you hope to get out of an upgrade? Do you
feel you need a spot meter? Or a more rugged,
water-resistant body? Or something else.

Tom made some good points, and if you really need
something that the 1N (or 3) offer, then he's probably
right that the 3 is a better fit. (Except for one
thing: No Canon camera I've ever owned has ever felt
as precisely made as the 1N / 1v. Not even the F-1N.
Although I haven't spent much time with a 90.)

But unless you really feel some feature of a new body
is going to make your images better, or easier to get,
I'd suggest saving the money and putting it towards a
digital, if that's your eventual goal anyway.

I still have my 1v, and can't quite convince myself to
part with it (unless someone wants to make me a real
good offer), but I shoot with my 20D almost
exclusively, with a 10D as my primary backup.

If the rumors of a 20D replacement are true, you may
be able to find 20Ds fairly cheap in the near future.
